Saganaki nominated for 2018 Golden Slipper

28th Jul 2017

miRunners' first colt, Saganaki, has its first nomination. For the Golden Slipper no less!

The Golden Slipper is the world’s richest race for juveniles. In technical terms, the Golden Slipper Stakes is an Australian Turf Club Group 1 Thoroughbred horse race for two-year-olds run over 1,200 metres on turf at set weights conditions, held at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse in Sydney, Australia.

Prize money in 2017 was A$3,500,000.

RECENT NEWS: Australian public names ground-breaking racehorse

The Slipper has been won by racing royalty such as Sebring and – more recently – has proven to be a key race for horses such as Capitlist and Pierro, not to mention last year’s win by She Will Reign, the largest group of owners to win ever.

With a record number of nominations received for the Golden Slipper – 2,197 to be precise – there are next round payments, second acceptances and final acceptances before Saganaki is a confirmed runner but every horse’s first nomination is important because it is progressing from the uneducated yearling to a young potential racehorse.
